Born in Southern California to an artist mother and a businessman father. Ty just wanted some extra pocket money so he could take his girlfriend to a better restaurant. When he accepted a couple of modeling assignments, Ty Miller probably didn't have any idea that he was already bound for Hollywood. After some local commercials, Ty soon found himself in a series of national spots. But it was only while enrolled in the Entrepreneur Program of the University California, when Ty felt the bite of the acting bug. Ty didn't start out to be an actor. He got his college degree in business at USC but fell into modeling and doing commercials. After appearing in more than twenty ads and making numerous television guest appearances, Ty pushed his business interestes aside and went into acting full time.
Ty's break came when he landed work on the television series "Hotel" as a regular, co-starring with James Brolin, the father of his future co-star Josh Brolin. Next he had a guest appearance in "Growing Pains." Ty also had a guest appearance in "General Hospital." Then in 1988, he broke into movies with a typical horror flick called Slaughterhouse Rock. Finally, all his hard work as a 'guest' actor paid off when he finally landed the lead role in the new ABC television series, "The Young Riders" as the very moral and sensitive Kid. Ty really enjoyed his role as "The Kid". He turned down four other acting jobs when he landed the role. He personally felt a special closeness to The Kid. Ty described his caracter as "...a pretty simple person. He doesn't say much, but if something needs to be done, he does it."
Ty portrays The Kid, a moralistic and sensitive young man who was raised in the South. A young man of dew words, The Kid is decent, kind hearted and has a natural ability to lead. His experiences in the West, however, have shaken his faith on the lessons he was taught when he was still a young lad in the Southern State of Virginia. A friend once said that if The Kid and Hickok were to draw on each other, The Kid would probably lose. Not because he is less skilled -- in fact, judging by that scene in Gunfighter, Kid is a better shot than Hickok and equally fast, too. But because he would think first before killing somebody. Most of The Kid's problems in life stem from his desire to always do "what is right." But because he has a good heart, he almost always makes the right decision. When his long-lost brother, Jed, asked him to ride with his gang for the South, Kid said no. He would also go out of his way to restify things that he felt went wrong because of him. The only time he can't seem to do right is when he is with Lou. Bent on protecting her from the world, Kid only succeeded in suffocating her. It all paid off in the end, though, for he and Lou married just before the outbreak of Civil War.
When "The Young Riders" came to an end in 1992, Ty all but disappeared, working only sporadically. We can only hope that he plans a comeback, because what we saw in "The Young Riders" was the rise of a very talented actor, who's ability reach far beyond that of a horror movie.
Ty Miller, who plyed The Kid, once hailed by several magazines as "the breakout star of 'The Young Riders" has been curiously absent from TV and movie screens since the show's cancellation. He did appear in a controversial episode of the hit series "Melrose Place" as the love interest of the show's gay character. And there was an appearance on the cult favorite "The X-Files". He has also made two very forgettable films, Trancers 4: Jack of Swords (1994) and Tracers 5: Sudden Deth (1995).
Even though Ty hasn't been seen in front of the cameras lately, he has been on the stage. Over the past few years, Ty has been focussing his attention on one of his first loves, music. He has been performing with a few bands in the L.A. area. In 1999, Ty returned to the big screen in U.S. Seals, which again, received it's share of negative reviews. Ty has once again been absent from the camera, but we never know when he'll pop up again. Currently, Ty lives in the L.A. area and is keeping himself busy with his business degree.
